Date and Walnut Loaf

 Ingredients 

225g/8 oz Plain Flour
10ml /2 tsp Baking Powder
10ml/2 tsp Mixed Spice
125g/4 oz Butter
50g/2 oz Whitworths Walnuts, chopped
50g/2 oz Whitworths Stoned Dates – Chopped
50g/2 oz Soft Brown Sugar
1 Egg
75ml/5 tbsp Milk

How to make

1. Grease and line a 1Kg (2lb) loaf tin.
2. Sift together the flour, baking powder and spice. Rub in the butter. Add the nuts, fruit and sugar. Mix well. Stir in the egg and milk, thoroughly but gently. Spoon into the tin.
3. Bake for about 1 hour at gas mark 5.
